2 Background Sections?

[edit]

I think it is strange to see 2 separate Background sections. The first one is alright but the second one seems wholly unnecessary. The first sentence deals with Saddam invoking religion for political purposes, completely unrelated to Al-Qaeda link allegations. The second paragraph deals with the Feith Memo, which has its own subsection anyway. It also mentions the Prague meeting, which is also discussed later on. The details about the camp at Salman Pak can be moved to the subsection on the 2002 DIA report. The final paragraph with Mubarak al-Duri can be moved up to Conflicting Ideologies. It might also be cleaner to create a subsection under Skepticism specifically detailing the unreliability of defectors' testimony. I will play around with this in a sandbox and see if I can get something looking nice. SatelliteOrbit (talk | contribs) 17:46, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge

[edit]

Merge Timeline of Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda link allegations into Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda link allegations. The content mostly overlaps and there are no need for two separate articles. Much of the timeline article can be cut down in length due to lengthy and WP:POV citations of quotes. Longhornsg (talk) 03:19, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Longhornsg, both articles are sufficiently long on first glance. However, if you think that the quotes in the timeline article are too long, I would recommend editing it to conform with WP standards and then seeing if the articles could still stand to be merged. This will also have the effect of improving the encyclopedia. In any case, the merge process strongly recommends editing be done in a different edit than the actual merge, so editing it now would help comply with that guideline.
